The Harvard Club of the Research Triangle presents:

"THE PERSONAL LIBRARIAN":  a virtual Discussion of the fictionalized biography of belle da costa greene by marie benedict and victoria christopher murray

Join us Saturday, Sept 6th aimagest 11am for an online discussion of the ficitionalized biography of Belle da Costa Greene.  Greene, known as the 'Princess of Books' scoured Europe and the United States for illuminated manuscripts and other literary treasures for the financier, J.P. Morgan.

Arnetta Girardeau, AB '90 will facilitate a discussion of the new biography of Belle Da Costa Greene, The Personal Librarian, a New York Times' bestseller

Hosted by the Harvard Club of Research Triangle, this promises to be a rich and lively discussion.

Greene was the daughter of Richard Greener, the first Black man to graduate from Harvard College. Her deep connections to Harvard include Harry Elkins Widener, Renaissance art scholar Bernard Berenson, and her nephew, Robbie Leveredge (AB 1943).

During her lifetime, she distanced herself from her Black roots, living under an assumed name. The Personal Librarian shows the director of New York’s opulent Morgan Library at the beginning of her foray into the world of Morgan and Widener.

Zoom link will be sent via email before the event, please RSVP below to receive link.

We will repeat the book club in person on September 13 at 1pm in Carrboro, location TBD.
