HCC presents: Annual Super Bowl Ad Review with Tim Calkins, MBA’91
Join the Harvard Club of Chicago for a conversation with Tim Calkins, MBA '91, as he shares the highs and lows of Super Bowl LVI advertising.
The Super Bowl is marketing’s biggest event of the year. Advertisers pay millions for each thirty second spot. This 2022 Super Bowl promises to be particularly interesting given the controversy around the pandemic, over NFL protests, concern about head injuries, and the broader polarization of our country. Which brands will sign on? Which will sit out this year? Will they make a statement or stick with safe, humorous spots?
Tim Calkins has been studying Super Bowl ads for more than a decade and is one of the world’s most quoted experts. Join him for the HBSCC’s annual look at the highs and lows of the latest Super Bowl advertising. Who did well? Who missed? And what does all this mean for business leaders?
Calkins is Associate Chair of the Marketing Department and Clinical Professor of Marketing at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, where he teaches courses including Marketing Strategy, Biomedical Marketing and Strategic Marketing Decisions. He is also co-academic director of the Kellogg on Branding executive education program. His other books include: Defending Your Brand: How Smart Companies Use Defensive Strategy to Deal with Competitive Attacks (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012); Breakthrough Marketing Plans (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008 and 2012). He is co-editor of Kellogg on Branding (John Wiley & Sons, 2005) and Kellogg on Branding in a Hyper-Connected World (John Wiley & Sons, 2019).
