0ec0d1dIvy Plus Event: Drones Panel Discussion

MIT Alumni Club is hosting a panel discussion on Tuesday, April 17.

The MIT Club of RTP cordially invites you to attend a panel discussion with three local experts on the state of the art and future of drones, and their related legal and societal issues, on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in RTP.

Drones are becoming prevalent in modern society and hold enormous potential and promise to improve quality of life.  Military drones conduct operations without placing pilots in harm's way.  Commercial drones monitor wildlife and agriculture and provide rich sets of data for decision making.  What are some of the more recent inventions, advances and applications?

As unmanned aerial vehicles become more widespread, however, conflict and controversy have also increased.  In the western US, the presence of an amateur drone disrupted forest fire fighting operations.  Drones have also been involved in near collisions with commercial aircraft.  What are the legal issues and responsibilities for flying a drone?

We have gathered three experts for a stimulating panel discussion on drone technology, applications, as well as societal ramifications:

  • Kyle Snyder – Director of the NextGen Air Transportation Consortium at the Institute for Transportation and Research Education at NC State University, leading research for drone integration and technology development since 2000.
  • Matthew Browning – Patent Attorney at Jenkins, Wilson, Taylor & Hunt, P.A. with experience in intellectual property issues related to computer science technologies and drones.
  • Juan Jiménez – Director of UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Business Development at uAvionix Corp., a developer and manufacturer of real-time mapping and surveillance systems, and navigational tools for general aviation and UAS.

Please join us for a thought-provoking discussion and networking with fellow alums!
