Oct. 20: New walking tour of an historic and powerful African-American community in Durham
On Sat. morning, Oct 20 at 10:00 a.m. come join a new one-hour walking tour of the fascinating Hayti area of Durham, the historic African-American cultural center that helped give rise to powerful businesses and cultural developments.
Two alumnae experienced this new walking tour and highly recommend it for HCRT members to help inform and entertain our community about what makes this area special in U.S. history.
DESCRIPTION: Historic Hayti Walking Tour highlights the innovative ideas, the amazing places, and the incomparable people that made up this singular and unique community in Durham, NC. Revisiting the lives of those involved in the groundbreaking development of NC Mutual Insurance Company to St Joseph's AME Church ,audiences will walk where these fascinating luminaries once walked, sit where they worshipped, and even meet some of them along the way. Old Fayetteville street is the stage for the celebration of an often overlooked, but beautiful history.
