About the evening:
Learn more about one of the RTP's most beloved citizens: Mildred Council (Mama Dip) as we gather for supper, networking and the annual presentation of the Harvard Club award for Community Service (the Roland Giduz award). For this community event we welcome friends of Mama Dip and our special guest host, William Ferris, and guests of our our sister college alumni clubs in the area. Tickets for purchase below!
This will be a festive evening of celebration of local food and a real treasure, Ms. Council.
Special Guest Host: We are delighted to announce that the introduction of Ms. Council will be by UNC history professor William Ferris, Ph.D, the former chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities and current associate director for the Center for the Study of the American South.
About Mildred Council (Mama Dip): Ms. Council was born and raised in North Carolina, and was taught by family members how to cook. In 1976, she opened her own restaurant with a mere $64. Today she can still be found cooking in the kitchen of her world-famous kitchen. She has been a guest on Good Morning America and featured in Southern Living and the New York Times. She was also the recipient of the Small Business Award of the Year for North Carolina.
Her cookbooks, found here, http://www.mamadips.com/products.shtml, are the top sellers for UNC press. Her food items are delivered all over the world, including by A Southern Season. (Her cookbook also makes a terrific holiday gift.)
