Mir Mehdy Hazheer '15 Honored

Mir Mehdy Hazheer, ’15, was honored in Raleigh on January 6th with a benefit for the National Geographic Afghan Children’s Fund. Hazheer, who embodied and gave voice to a strong vision of unity and peace, suffered fatal injuries in an accident on the eve of his high school graduation. The fundraiser was organized by the Social Justice Club of his school, Raleigh Charter, to build on Hazheer’s commitment to improving education, especially in the United States and Afghanistan. Hillary Stroud (RCHS ’11, UNC-CH ’15) shared a message from admissions officer Elise Eggart, describing Hazheer as “a special person, a young man of considerable faith, with a heart for justice and an insatiable desire to make the world around him better.” HCRT president Liz Brown and schools committee chair Rebecca High presented Mr. Hazheer’s parents with a commendation from the College, recognizing his “extraordinary life and achievements,” reflecting the appreciation of the Harvard community and its faith in his legacy. The club also made a financial contribution, which was received with thanks by organizer Alex DiLalla.
