HAA: Student-Alumni Flash Mentoring Month for Harvard College Students

shield-smSupport Harvard students by becoming a "Firsthand Advisor" or volunteering for the Networking 101 Events this month.

January is Student-Alumni Flash Mentoring Month for Harvard College students—and the HAA needs your help! Right now, mentorship, career advice, and networking are top of mind for students, as many are looking for opportunities for the summer and beyond.  Join the HAA in showing them the support they can find within their Harvard community.

Students have been encouraged to connect with alumni through Firsthand Advisers and the HAA Alumni Directory to set up virtual informal “coffee chat” meetings. The HAA is also looking for volunteers to help with Networking 101 events in January, where students will have the opportunity to work on their networking skills. You can help by making sure your Alumni Directory profile is up to date and consider signing up for Firsthand Advisers and/or Networking 101, if you have not already.

Become a Firsthand Adviser

The Office of Career Services’ Firsthand Advisers platform provides scheduling and connection tools to engage in “flash mentoring.” Alumni can offer 30–60 minutes to engage in a mock interview, review a resume or CV, or have a career chat. As the job market has changed due to the economic impact of the pandemic, your advice in navigating career options is particularly needed. Need help signing up? Email ocsrecep@fas.harvard.edu.

Update your profile in the Alumni Directory

The Harvard Alumni Association Alumni Directory is your comprehensive resource for staying in touch with classmates and other alumni around the world. College students can also use this platform to make connections with those in their area or expected field. Take a minute to make sure your profile is up to date with your most recent contact information so students can reach out to you.

Volunteer for a Networking 101 event

Help current Harvard College students build valuable networking skills by signing up for a Networking 101 event, planned by the Harvard Alumni Association in partnership with the Houses and the Office of Career Services. These events, which will be held virtually on Zoom, feature a networking discussion and practice session for current students. This is not a recruiting event; no formal preparation or hiring ability is required. All you need is a knack for networking and a desire to help students build skills in an informal, conversational setting.

Sign up to help with one of the sessions below. Zoom links and calendar holds will be sent to registrants before the sessions.
Wednesday, January 13, 8:00–9:00 p.m. (EST)
Saturday, January 16, 3:00–4:00 p.m. (EST)
Sunday, January 17, 11:00 a.m.–Noon (EST)
Register for a Networking 101 event

Thank you for your interest in helping students!
